OBITUARY

ROB EVANS FACI.

Warrington Cine and  Video Society are sadly reporting the death of their President Rob Evans on 22nd December 2020. Rob had been unwell since September, needing an operation and hospital treatment. He fell victim to the coronavirus in December  and passed away in Warrington Hospital.

Rob and his wife Sheila joined Warrington Cine Society in 1968.  They introduced  Super 8

and Single 8 mm film to WCS and joined the Society committee. Rob and  Sheila also joined the IAC and the IAC Regional Council, while Rob joined the  IAC National Council, becoming Company Secretary. He was awarded an IAC Fellowship in 1982.

Rob served the Society in many different roles. He was Society Chairman 1976 to 1978 and Vice Chairman 1978 to 1980. He was Programme Secretary, and later became Society Secretary from 1993 to 2007, which involved a lot of work. Rob then became Joint Society Vice President with Sheila from 2009, when long service awards were presented.

Rob was appointed Society President at the AGM in 2014. Rob and Sheila represented  Warrington CVS at IAC NW region council events and meetings. They were also very involved in Society productions and local projects and could be relied upon to put on Society film shows for other local groups.

Rob joined the WCS sound group with Arnold Seddon, Cyril Baines and Alec Thomson, and recalled many enjoyable times making Society films. His favourite was “Bedlam”,  filmed on location at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway at Newby Bridge.

Rob’s expertise in electrical matters was legendary. He set up improvements at Society HQ  which included a backup emergency lighting system and a central electric powerpoint for projectors and sound equipment.

Sadly when Sheila died in 2012 Rob never really recovered from her passing. As Society

President, Rob was still very supportive but less active. We will remember his attendances at social occasions, the AGM and the Society Annual Show, but we will especially remember his President’s  Lunch in October 2016, when members, past members, and friends, celebrated the Society’s 80 th Anniversary.

Although Rob had been ill since September, the news of his death came as a shock. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Rob’s funeral is on Thursday 4 th February 2021, at St Mary’s Church, Prestwich, Manchester.

WCVS WEBSITE NEWS 31-3-20.

WCVS held their Annual Show on 22nd February, the event was well attended and we are very grateful to everyone who came, for their support.

Our members have been working on a number of projects including Rocket 190 at Rainhill, the Lymm Christmas Festival and two short script ideas involving everyone at weekly meetings.

In January, members attended the Society meal at the Ring O’ Bells in Daresbury, and St Martin’s Church “After Christmas” party-both very enjoyable.

In January entries for our Annual Competition were sent to Mercury MM in Leeds and Alan Williams from Crewe MM came to judge the Elf Rose Bowl and Geoff Welch competitions.

The Elf Rose Bowl theme was "Monuments", and was won by James Walton’s video “Worth a Second Look- in Trafford.”

The Geoff Welch trophy was won by Derek and Marjorie Belton’s video “Trentham” for the best video made on the Society Day Out.

We have since visited Crewe and Burnley to show selections of our members’ videos and have been invited to take part in a Warrington Community Project on 9th August called “Time Machine” to be held at Parr Hall, Warrington. No doubt there will be more written on this topic as the year goes on- Corona virus permitting.
