WCVS NEWS  - 16-2-19.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Annual Show in 2018, we were very grateful for all your support.

We were visited in 2018 by Wilmslow Guild, Hoylake MM and by Poynton & Stockport MM.  Our Members attended the Burnley Film Festival, the Bolton Movie Challenge, the Swan Transport Show & Southport Inter Club Competition.

In July, we met outdoors in Woolston Park and visited Martin Mere Wetland Centre for our Society Day Out, with fine weather on both days.  In August, Elizabeth & Ray welcomed us for a social afternoon, with excellent hospitality.  Also in August, Society President, Rob Evans, visited Radio Warrington to take part in the Culture Show.  He reminisced and chatted about WCVS and chose music.  In September, we took part in a Trivention at Bolton MM with Cheadle & Gatley FM.  Cheadle & Gatley won by a narrow margin, Jonathan Wilson’s video “Continuation” won Best Film.

In January 2019, Members met for the Society Meal at the Ring O’ Bells in Daresbury and attended the St Martin’s Church After Christmas Party.   

Good News: We have welcomed new member Janardhan and gratefully received a donation of films from the family of past member Jack Chisnall.  

Sad News: We are very sadly reporting the deaths of 2 members-Les Osborne 18th February and Eileen Lamb 20th February.

Competition Results 2018/2019.

John Heesom from PSM came to judge the Niklaus & Walter Last Competitions in October.   Niklaus 1 Minute video competition won by Derek Belton’s video “Patience……….Rewarded.”  Walter Last Holiday Competition won by Peter Rogers video “A Look Around Florida & Cape Kennedy.”

Alaister MacRae judged the Elf Rose Bowl and Geoff Welch Competitions in January.  The Elf Rose Bowl, with a theme of Transport, was won by James Walton’s video “In Steam.”  The Geoff Welch Trophy for the best video made on the Society Day Out at Martin Mere, was won by Derek & Marjorie Belton’s video “A Summer Day at Martin Mere.”

Our Annual Competition was judged by Swan MM.  

The Winner was James Walton’s video “In Steam,” awarded the Blamire Cup for Best Film, it was also awarded The Percy Hughes Shield for Best Photography and the Cyril Baines Trophy for Best Editing.  In 2nd place & Runner Up-James Walton’s video “Holy Orders in the Borders.”  In 3rd Place Tom Clark’s video “RP Assistive Technology.”  Other awards: Best use of Sound-Derek & Marjorie Belton’s video “A Summer Day at Martin Mere.”  Best Use of Music- Bill Johnson’s video “New Orleans.”

VIDEO SOCIETY COMPETITION SUCCESSES.

 

A video called “Let’s Play” written and directed by new member Janardhan Medasani has won the Bolton Movie Challenge on behalf of WCVS. Jana’s young son Hanish took a starring role. 9 other NW Clubs took part.

 

Two other club members have also been successful recently. Tom Clark’s video “RP Assistive

Technology” was awarded a "Highly Commended" certificate at the Burnley Film Festival and Derek and Marjorie Belton’s video “Moss” was awarded a 4 Star certificate at the BIAFF event this year.

 

WCVS meets every Monday at 8pm at St Martin’s Methodist Church, Gig Lane, Woolston, Warrington WA1 4EE.

 

Visitors and potential new members are welcome.

On 17 July club member Janardhan Medasani attended premiere show of film 'Blinded by the Light' and met Film director Gurinder Chadha best known for her hit films like 'Bend it like Beckham', 'Bride and Prejudice', Viceroy House', and Tv show 'Beecham House'.

WCVS NEWS DECEMBER 2019.

​

At the AGM in April, James Walton became Society Chairman and David Cooper was presented with the Sheila Evans Shield.

​

In May, Society members attended and videoed the Rocket 190 Bank Holiday Weekend event in Rainhill.  

 

Members are hoping to produce a Society video. Members have also been working on scripts for two new video projects, “The Café,” and “Money.” 

​

There was a members’ day out at Trentham Gardens in July and a social afternoon at the home of Elizabeth & Ray in August- both having good weather.

​

Following the sad deaths of members Les Osborne & Eileen Lamb in February, the Society held two tribute evenings in October & November with family members present.

​

The Niklaus One Minute & Walter Last Holiday competitions were held in October and were judged by Paul Walker and Gillian Turner from Mid Cheshire Movie Makers.  New member Janardhan Medasani won the Niklaus trophy with his video “The Bike” and Bill Johnson won the Walter Last trophy with his video “The Music of the South.”

We have had some interesting visits this year, members from PSM came in April and Jonathan Wilson now living in USA also visited in May, followed by two members from Burnley FM in November. 

​

Society members are now working on their entries for more competitions in January.  

​

Our Annual  Show takes place on 22nd February at Woolston.  

​

We meet every Monday at 8pm at St Martin’s Methodist Church Hall, Gig Lane, Woolston, Warrington,  WA1 4EE. We welcome visitors.
